The story

Csencsits in Grosspetersdorf: Austrian Fine Dining with Seasonal Precision

The kitchen at Csencsits

Csencsits serves a focused version of Austrian cuisine in Grosspetersdorf, where seasonal produce and precise technique shape every plate. Jürgen Csencsits leads the kitchen, balancing earthy root vegetables with delicate proteins so ingredients speak without excess manipulation. This method earned the restaurant sixteen points from Gault&Millau in 2026, a recognition that reflects years of refined execution. Green asparagus, kohlrabi, and radish arrive dressed in a sharply balanced hollandaise.

Seasonal highlights and protein

Duck liver meets river trout and roasted parsnip, finished with a light cherry reduction that cuts through the richness. The main course shifts to a traditional roast beef paired with celery and shiitake mushrooms sliced to resemble crisp fries. Each preparation follows a clear logic, moving from delicate textures to deeper umami notes before closing on a topfen gratin layered with vanilla and rhubarb. Wine or non-alcoholic accompaniments complement the Austrian cuisine without overwhelming the palate.

Floor management and guest experience

Melanie Csencsits oversees the dining room with a calm efficiency that complements the kitchen’s pace. Chefs step out to greet visitors personally, setting a straightforward and unhurried tone for the evening. Service moves at a measured rhythm, giving diners time to absorb each course before the next arrives. The team maintains this steady cadence, ensuring the regional cooking remains the clear focus.

Harmisch is well known far beyond the borders of Burgenland thanks to Jürgen Csencsits – and rightly so, as our visit once again impressively confirmed. Following warm greetings from the kitchen, the first course arrives: duck liver with trout and parsnip – cherries add a fruity touch to the dish. This is followed by a salad of green asparagus, kohlrabi, radishes, and a pleasantly spiced hollandaise sauce. The perfectly pan-fried turbot with white asparagus stands out for its firm yet tender texture. The roast beef with celery is also a pleasant surprise, with shiitake mushrooms that resemble fine fries both in taste and appearance. The quark gratin with vanilla and rhubarb is a perfect finish. Both wine and non-alcoholic pairings are offered with the menu.
