The story
Perched in Oberlech at 1,700 metres, the Griggeler Stuba occupies the gastronomic heart of the Burg Vital Resort 5*S. The restaurant holds two Michelin stars alongside a Gault Millau score of 18.5 out of 20 points (four toques), a Falstaff rating of 98 out of 100, and — the distinction that places it among a very select global group — the Wine Spectator Grand Award. Few alpine restaurants carry that combination of recognition.
The kitchen is led by Chef Sebastian Jakob, with Chef Pâtissière Annika Beutel responsible for the pastry programme. Together they compose what the restaurant describes as "exclusive menus that stay in the memory" — built from the finest local and international produce, spanning fish, shellfish, meat and vegetables. Know-how, experience and passion, in the restaurant's own words, are the additional ingredients behind a kitchen that has earned its reputation through consistency rather than spectacle.
Dining here follows a set-menu format: the Griggeler Experience is priced from €285 per person for the 2025/26 winter season. À la carte selection within the menu is not available, though the restaurant does welcome à la carte guests — reservations are required in all cases.
The Wine Spectator Grand Award is not given lightly — it recognises wine lists of extraordinary depth, breadth and quality. At the Griggeler Stuba, the cellar opens what the team calls "numerous detours into the world's finest wine regions," making the wine programme an integral part of the fine dining experience rather than an afterthought.
The Stuba sits within a luxury alpine resort, which means the surroundings carry the warmth of a traditional Austrian Stube alongside the polish of a five-star property. The district of Oberlech is the sunny plateau of the fashionable Arlberg municipality of Lech. On the terraces, the world's finest wines are served in abundance. The cuisine also reaches world-class standards, particularly at the gourmet establishment Griggeler Stuba. The property boasts one of the best restaurant wine cellars in the Alpine region. After the presentation of raw ingredients at the kitchen bar, several exquisite starters are selected. Everything is prepared par excellence. Whether it is Juhu beef essence, Tristan lobster, duck liver, Balfegó Bluefin Tuna, ASC-certified Hiramasa Kingfish with N25 caviar, or Norwegian royal red with Lake Constance eel, the culinary refinement here takes place in the kitchen at the highest level. Line-caught deep-water sea bass, salmon trout with Vetter's vegetables from the Alpine Rhine Valley, Arlberg quail with truffle, and "beef with currants" also fully impress.
