The story
At Bistrot L'îlot, the philosophy is “plain and simple, up close and personal,” as chef Sander De Saegher puts it. This casual Antwerpen bistro thrives on spontaneity, offering a menu that changes with the seasons. The kitchen works with fresh, homemade ingredients, and the wine list leans heavily on France, with occasional bottles from Italy, Austria, and Spain—organic and natural where they taste good, but never at the expense of flavour.
The approach is built for sharing. Start with a few small plates: a mackerel tartelette with tomato and basil, or the clever “sot l’y laisse” dressed like KFC with oyster sauce and spring onion. For a set menu (€58 per person), expect dishes such as a vichyssoise with potato and watercress, courgette with labneh and za’atar, or potato gnocchi with broad beans and mushrooms. The menu adapts to dietary needs, and cheese from Schoonvliet finishes the meal.
Bistrot L’îlot earned a Michelin Recommended distinction in 2026, a recognition of its focused, ingredient-driven French cuisine in an unpretentious setting. The dining room invites lingering over an aperitif, ordering another starter, and letting the evening unfold. Whether for a quick lunch (fixed menu at €40 from Tuesday to Friday) or a leisurely Saturday dinner, the bistro delivers a genuine, personal dining experience.
Beyond the restaurant, the team runs L’ilot to Go, a traiteur shop on Londenstraat offering takeaway and catering—the same love for food, made to enjoy at home.
