The story
Brasserie Bowie in Antwerp opens a refined brasserie near Te Boelaerpark, founded by friends Toon De Bock, Ellen Blereau, and Bertrand Lekeux. Chef De Bock, who also works at the Bārrio deli, directs the kitchen with a straightforward approach to classic cooking. The team prioritized reliable suppliers over fleeting trends. Their project recently earned recognition on the 2026 Le Fooding list for maintaining consistent standards.
This brasserie serves comfort food reimagined with precise technique. Shrimp croquettes arrive alongside a rich bone marrow spread topped with toasted panko and fresh parsley. A traditional vol-au-vent gets lightened with flaky pastry croutons and a smooth mousseline sauce. Diners can order a Belgian-style steak tartare dressed simply with crisp lettuce, or share a slow-cooked carbonade prepared with local Magma beer.
The renovation preserved the building’s historic corner footprint while introducing a playful nod to David Bowie through geometric stained glass and sharp lighting fixtures. An upper floor provides extra seating for larger parties, and a dedicated children’s room keeps younger guests occupied with books and toys. Dogs are welcomed throughout the lower level, and the layout balances casual energy with enough space for unhurried conversation.
