Celebrated table
The story
Café Service stands out among Antwerp bistros as a direct successor to the beloved Stanny neighborhood spot. Tessa Kersten and Daan Gooiker acquired the location to preserve its rebellious spirit, while Lauren Vergeyle and Robin Gielens now lead the pass. Both cooks bring experience from prominent local kitchens, allowing this bistro kitchen to focus on precise techniques rather than heavy sauces.
The menu focuses on tightly composed small plates designed for sharing. Guests regularly order homemade rillettes alongside a brandade croquette served with thick shrimp mayo. Fresh peas appear with anchovies and nduja jus, while plump cockles rest in beurre blanc with purslane and salmon roe. Daan selects lively natural wines, and local craft beers come straight from Billie’s Bottle Shop.
Careful restoration left the original turn-of-the-century floor tiles and a long wooden bar intact. Diners may book a table in the main room or walk in for a quick seat at the barstools facing the street. This adaptable layout supports scheduled meals and spontaneous evenings, securing the venue a place on the 2026 Le Fooding list.
