The story
De Ceder is the culinary project of chef Frederick Schaffrath and hostess Katrijn Camerlinck. In an intimate fine dining setting, they serve pure dishes with a focus on honest, local, and seasonal ingredients, combined into a modern French-Belgian cuisine. Michelin recognized De Ceder as a Recommended restaurant in 2026, and this year the restaurant celebrates its 50th anniversary.
Frederick grew up in his grandfather’s butcher shop, then worked in some of Belgium’s most renowned restaurants, where he met Katrijn. In 2004, they took over her parents’ long-established business. They have since completely renewed the restaurant, making everything from bread to biscuits themselves. In 2015, they added B&B Ceder10, allowing guests to extend their stay.
The menu changes with the seasons. The Cedermenu, a multi-course tasting menu, evolves throughout the year, offering delicate combinations of carefully chosen ingredients. Recent dishes include salmon with Dukah and bergamot, skrei with miso and Jerusalem artichoke, and lamb with spring onion and txistorra. The à la carte and lunch menus follow the same philosophy of purity and seasonality. Everything is prepared with respect for the product and a modern touch.
Katrijn’s brother, Stefaan Camerlinck, is an award-winning sommelier (First and Best Sommelier of Belgium 2005-2006). He curates a wine list that seeks out authentic, high-quality wines that remain accessible. The selection is personal, with a focus on typicity and value, and the team is happy to guide you.
Located in Kruibeke, in the Waasland region just outside Antwerp, De Ceder has built a reputation that reaches far beyond its immediate area. The dining room is intimate, with a calm elegance that puts guests at ease. Service is warm and knowledgeable, reflecting the couple’s hands-on approach. Whether for a tasting menu or a simple lunch, De Ceder offers a genuine taste of modern cuisine at its best.
