The story
Chez/Bij Jansens & Jansens brings a grounded Belgian bistro ethos to the corner of Boulevard du Midi in Brussels. Former cemetery groundskeeper Tim Jansens revived the space alongside longtime regular France Daulby, preserving its bilingual soul. The kitchen operates openly at the center of the room, where chefs Marion Vanderhaeghen and Basile Sautois coordinate fast service without sacrificing care. Their approach honors local butchery traditions while respecting the original Greek recipes left behind by founder Voula Karras.
The menu shifts between hearty Flemish staples and inherited Greek cooking traditions. A family-style bowl of capellini bolognese arrives topped with generous shavings of Emmental cheese. Black garlic chipolata from Spek & Boonen rests beside stoemp, a thick mash blended with carrots and broccoli. Guests also pass around traditional mezze including homemade tarama, celery tzatziki, Kalamata olives, and feta cubes wrapped in vine leaves.
Formica tables and framed still lifes anchor the dining area in a quiet nod to yesterday. Patrons gather here with friends, workers, and even the neighborhood dog under the steady glow of vintage lighting. Tuborg ashtrays rest near craft taps pouring regional beers alongside house sausages. This blend of heritage and daily rhythm recently earned the spot a listing in Le Fooding 2026.
