The story

La Belle Maraîchère, Brussels – Michelin-Recommended Seafood & Classic Cuisine

For more than five decades, La Belle Maraîchère has anchored the “Quartier des Poissonniers” in central Brussels. Occupying a handsome 1759 townhouse on Place Sainte-Catherine, this bistro‑style restaurant is a fixture of the city’s gastronomic landscape – and it earned a Michelin Recommendation for 2026.

A Family Affair

The restaurant is the life’s work of the Devreker family, recognised as “Maîtres Cuisiniers de Belgique”. Since 1973, father and son have worked the stoves with a philosophy built on three pillars: the right ingredient, the right cooking, and the right price. Their consistency and warmth have built an excellent reputation among locals and visitors alike.

Franco‑Belge Seafood at Its Core

The menu changes with the seasons but always centres on fish and crustaceans. Starters range from grey shrimp croquettes to lobster salad with cocktail sauce. Main courses showcase North Sea classics: sole meunière, sole Bréval style with white wine sauce and mushrooms, or a bouillabaisse of local fish. For two, there is grilled lobster with garlic and herbs, or a braised wild turbot “Sans Nom” style. Meat dishes – grilled tenderloin of beef with béarnaise – are also available, but seafood remains the star.

A Cellar to Match

With over 150 references, the wine cellar is an impressive collection of crus selected to complement the kitchen’s delicate, traditional Franco‑Belge cuisine. Whether you choose a simple glass or a bottle from a serious domaine, the list rewards both casual drinkers and committed oenophiles.

The Setting

Inside, the atmosphere is that of an authentic Brussels bistro: unfussy, convivial, and welcoming. The restaurant also offers a private salon and a banquet room for family dinners, business meetings, and celebrations. Takeaway is available for those who prefer to enjoy the cooking at home.

La Belle Maraîchère is open Monday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for lunch and dinner. Closed Tuesday through Thursday.
