The story

Le Vieux Mila: Cameroonian Cooking in Brussels

Roots and inspiration

Le Vieux Mila brings authentic Cameroonian cooking to Brussels through the hands of chef Parfait Ebeng. The restaurant secured its 2026 Le Fooding listing by translating match day energy into a straightforward kitchen that favors bold flavors over formalities. Ebeng channels his love for football and family recipes into every service, creating a space where guests can relax without rigid etiquette.

Signature plates

The kitchen builds its menu around rich Cameroonian cuisine that relies on slow simmering and careful seasoning. Ndolé arrives as a generous portion of South West African leaves stewed in a thick peanut sauce alongside substantial chicken thighs and breasts. Diners typically pair the leafy mixture with fufu pounded from boiled cassava and sweet caramelized plantains. Even the starter plate features grilled chicken wings served alongside crispy onion petals, while a dedicated bowl of house hot sauce and Maggi cubes sits ready at every table.

A vibrant gathering space

Bright walls and year round fairy lights create an energetic backdrop for meals near the Parvis de Saint Gilles. Cassava patterned tablecloths and vintage football scarves hang throughout the dining room to reinforce the sports theme. Patrons can also take advantage of the outdoor seating area when the weather turns mild. The layout encourages loud conversation and shared bowls, mirroring the communal spirit of a stadium terrace.

Le Fooding — Listed

Parfait Ebeng is terribly lucky to have rolled all his passions (grilled goat, fresh pilsner, Union Saint-Gilloise football team) into one place! Le Vieux Mila? As in Roger, the iconic Cameroonian footballer, who lends his last name (minus an “l”) to the retro sign of this deliciously crazy restaurant near the Parvis de Saint-Giles (football scarves, cassava-patterned tablecloths, brightly-colored walls, fairy lights all year round). That evening, with Cadiz v. Real Madrid playing in the background: juicy chicken wings that light up our taste buds and crunchy onion petals; emblematic (and generous) ndolé – the leaves of a South-West African plant stewed in a rich peanut sauce along with chunks of chicken (thigh, breast…), plus beautifully caramelized plantains; and comforting fufu (pounded boiled cassava), to mop up the sauce. Watch out for the bowl of hot sauce, inseparable from the Maggi at the table, as it’s capable of setting your evening on fire! // Rosa Poulsard
