The story
Titulus in Brussels pairs its extensive natural wine selection with a dedicated focus on local cooking. Three founding friends established the space in 2011 to bridge the gap between vineyard producers and everyday dining. They later acquired Domaine des Hauts-Baigneux in Touraine, giving the Brussels team direct access to their own natural wines. The name pays homage to Titulus Pictus, the painted labels once scratched onto Roman wine amphoras, grounding their modern approach in historical tradition. Their commitment to ethical sourcing earned them two radishes from the We’re Smart Green Guide, recognizing how deeply sustainability shapes their daily operations.
Chef Lyla Bangels leads the kitchen with full creative freedom, designing menus that rotate with the harvest and highlight regional suppliers. She structures every service around sharing plates, ensuring groups can sample multiple flavors while minimizing food waste. The pantry draws from trusted partners like Boulengier, La Fruitière, and Färm, keeping ingredient transport short and seasonal produce at its peak. This philosophy of regional cuisine turns each evening into a practical exercise in resourcefulness rather than theatrical presentation.
The wine program operates with equal emphasis on discovery and accessibility, offering twenty rotating pours alongside a cellar holding more than five hundred references. Every bottle on the shelf is available by the glass for a twelve euro corkage fee, removing the usual barriers to tasting lesser-known vintages. Staff members guide selections without pushing premium margins, treating each conversation as a straightforward exchange between equals. Visitors often linger over a carafe of organic red or a crisp Loire white while waiting for their next round of shared bites.
