The story

Tortilleria Benelux: Artisanal Mexican Kitchen in Brussels

The Master of Maize

Tortilleria Benelux delivers an artisanal approach to Mexican cooking at Place de la Reine 8 in Brussels. Maestro Daniel Cisneros Perez guides the kitchen using nixtamalization, an ancestral process that soaks corn in alkaline water before roasting, grinding, and pressing. This technique produces fresh tortillas that anchor the menu, providing a distinct texture and clean flavor profile for each preparation.

Flavorful Street Food Classics

The kitchen focuses on generous servings inspired by street food culture. Tender beef tacos carry aromatic notes, while quesadillas arrive packed with fillings that benefit from a dash of homemade salsa. Nachos served with guacamole offer crunch and balance, matching the standards of excellent street fare. These plates demonstrate the versatility of the freshly made dough and rich seasonings.

Space and Setting

Situated beneath the shade of the Sainte-Marie church, the building displays a modest workshop facade. Inside, the environment feels like an authentic slice of Mexico, with indoor seating now available for guests who wish to dine on location. This change allows visitors to consume the tortillas while they remain hot from the press, keeping the focus on immediate freshness.

At first glance, this appears to be a run-of-the-mill little workshop, tucked away in the shade of the Sainte-Marie church. But step inside Tortilleria Benelux and you’ll discover an entirely authentic slice of Mexico, in its most artisanal form. That’s because the maestro Daniel Cisneros Perez takes nixtamalization seriously, the ancestral technique of soaking corn in alkaline water before cooking, grinding and pressing it into gloriously fresh tortillas, which are fast winning over Brussels! Want some insider advice? You can now devour these freshly cooked tortillas in house, loaded up with good things! The last time we went, it was a true feast of flavor: tender, aromatic beef tacos; generously filled quesadillas, even better with a dash of the homemade salsa; and nachos with guacamole to go with it all, crunchy and balanced, just like top-notch street food should be.
