The story

Villa Singha | Authentic Thai Cuisine in Brussels with Bib Gourmand Recognition

A Quarter-Century of Thai Tradition in Auderghem

Since the late 1990s, Villa Singha has been a steady presence in Brussels’ Auderghem district, serving authentic Thai cuisine in a setting that honours the kingdom’s cultural roots. The restaurant takes its name from the mythological lion Singha, a guardian figure that appears throughout the decor – carved wooden panels, painted motifs, and subtle references that transport guests well beyond the rue des Trois Ponts.

The Kitchen’s Philosophy

Fresh produce and authentic flavours are the pillars of the cooking here. The menu is built around traditional Thai recipes, with an emphasis on balancing heat, acidity, and sweetness – a hallmark of the cuisine. Dishes such as Kha Nom Jeep (steamed ravioli stuffed with chopped pork and Thai spices) showcase the kitchen’s ability to layer heat without overwhelming the palate. Crispy Popiah fried spring rolls, Thai dumplings with ground pork, and fried cod in a ginger chili sauce are other regulars, each prepared with a generational understanding of herbs and spices.

Michelin Recognition

The quality has not gone unnoticed. Michelin recommended Villa Singha as early as 2007, and the restaurant has held a Bib Gourmand – awarded for “good quality, good value cooking” – consistently since 2015. The guide’s inspectors praise the “authenticity of the cuisine and the gentleness of the welcome and service.” This recognition underscores the kitchen’s steady hand and the generous, reasonably priced portions that define the Bib Gourmand spirit.

Atmosphere and Service

The interior is characteristic of a traditional Thai restaurant: warm woods, soft lighting, and the lion motif recurring in subtle details. The service is notably charming – a point the Michelin entry itself highlights. Villa Singha also offers takeaway for those who prefer to enjoy the food at home, and vegetarian options are available on request.

A Note on Timing

The restaurant is open Tuesday through Saturday evenings, with additional lunch service on Thursday and Friday. Booking is strongly advised, as the small dining room fills quickly – a testament to the loyalty Villa Singha has built over more than a quarter century of honest, flavourful Thai cooking in Brussels.
