The story

Vismet Brussels – Fresh Seafood on Place Sainte-Catherine | Michelin Recommended

Vismet

On Place Sainte-Catherine, Brussels' historic fish market square, Vismet carries on the tradition with a straightforward, seafood-focused bistro. The restaurant has earned a Michelin Recommended distinction, a nod to its consistent, high-quality cooking that lets the catch speak for itself.

The menu changes with the seasons and what the sea offers, but the classics are always present. Start with garnaalkroketten – the Belgian shrimp croquette – or a salad of fresh North Sea crab with avocado and citrus. Six hollow oysters from Normandy are a clean, briny opener. For the main course, the kitchen excels at fish simply prepared: baked zeetong (sole) with fries and salad, poached cod with mousseline sauce and seasonal vegetables, or three grilled Oostende sliptongetjes (small soles) with tartare sauce, fine fries, and a salad of chicory and lamb’s lettuce. Red tuna is prepared like a ‘américain’ and served with house-made fries. There are also a few meat options – Irish filet mignon with shallot butter or béarnaise.

Desserts are the kind you remember: a Dame Blanche with house-made ice cream, crème brûlée, chocolate mousse, or flan caramel. The weekday lunch menu is priced at 38,00 Eur.

Vismet is closed Sundays and Mondays, and takes a break from August 9 to September 7. Reservations are recommended.
