The story
The Chick is the heart of Taste M, a trio of concepts that grew from a shared dream between friends Elsje, Mehdi, Anneke, and Wim. What began as a rotisserie in 2019 has evolved into a fine-dining restaurant that earned a Michelin Recommended distinction in 2026. The team’s philosophy is simple: “made with love, made to love.” That spirit runs through every dish, every pairing, and every welcome.
The Chick works exclusively with a chef’s choice surprise menu, refreshed every six weeks. It’s a tasting journey that starts with local producers—a farm in Leest, an artisan baker around the corner—and then travels freely across the globe. One course might echo Tokyo, the next Paris, then Lima or Lebanon. The kitchen, led by Taha and his team, never repeats itself. Guests choose between four courses (€82) or five courses (€94); on Saturdays and holidays, only the five-course menu is served. An optional Signature Dish adds an extra surprise, and the wine pairing, drawn from The Cellar’s underground collection, is just as adventurous.
The Chick occupies a characterful space on Sint-Romboutskerkhof, steps from the cathedral. The restaurant is part of a larger ensemble: The Cellar, a 16th-century vaulted cellar that doubles as a wine shop and event space, and The Chapel, a former 1856 chapel now used for private dinners and celebrations. The Cellar also houses a cheese-aging room for Kaasmeester Schockaert, so a cheese course—matured just metres away—is always an option. The Chick blends modern cuisine with a warm, unpretentious atmosphere, where knowledge is passed between generations of cooks and the result is a meal that feels both personal and precise.
