The story
At Le Roi de Trèfle in Namur, hospitality is personal. The restaurant is run by Brigitte Dekoninck (the "Roi") and Patrick Kleeblatt (the "Trèfle"), a duo who welcome guests into a space they describe as "rather chic and friendly." The atmosphere is intimate, designed for small groups who appreciate good food and conversation.
The cuisine is classic French, traditional and bourgeois in style, built around local and seasonal products. During lunch, the kitchen suggests a few dishes. In the evening, the approach changes: diners discuss recipes with the team based on what is fresh in the fridges. There is no fixed menu — just the ingredients of the moment, written on a small blackboard from which guests compose their own starter and main course. Evening prices are €27.50 for a starter and €37.50 for a main. Lunch is served on Thursdays and Fridays at €43.50, with a choice between two starters and two mains, plus cheese or dessert. Sunday midday features a fixed menu at €56.50.
The wine cellar is a central part of the experience. The selection is vast, and guests are encouraged to visit the cellars in person — "it's even better with the eyes." For those who prefer to enjoy the wines at home, Le Roi de Trèfle also offers wine boxes.
This is cooking that feels like home, but elevated. The Michelin guide has recognised the restaurant for its consistent quality and warm hospitality, placing it among the recommended addresses in Belgium. Whether you come for a weekday lunch or a Saturday evening, the spirit is the same: convivial, unpretentious, and rooted in the best of classic French cuisine.
