The story
l'Essentiel is a restaurant of character, housed in a 17th-century tannery in Temploux, a short drive from Namur. The kitchen holds a Michelin star for high-quality cooking. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with several dining rooms, each possessing its own distinct ambiance. When weather permits, the team serves meals on the terrace overlooking the gardens.
Bénédicte and her team welcome guests into a space that is both bright and convivial. The setting is the frame for classic French fine dining, presented through tasting menus. A recent seasonal menu offered dishes like turbot with a carrot variation and mustard-seed condiment, braised pork with Comté gnocchi and truffle butter, and roasted duck supreme with stuffed leg and foie gras. A cheese course of Saint-Félicien paired with sweet onion, guanciale, and caramelized pecan finished the savoury portion. The restaurant pairs its food with a carefully selected wine list.
l'Essentiel opens for lunch and dinner from Wednesday to Saturday. The restaurant also operates a guesthouse, allowing diners to extend their stay. Private parties can be accommodated, and outdoor seating is available in the warmer months. Parking is on-site.
