The story
Ya Ge, the signature Chinese restaurant at Mandarin Oriental, Taipei, has earned a Michelin star for eight consecutive years—most recently confirmed in the 2025 guide. The restaurant’s name translates to “elegant” in Chinese, and the space lives up to it: a refined dining room with five private rooms, the largest seating up to 20 guests, suitable for both business entertaining and family gatherings.
Born and raised in Hong Kong, Chef Yuen Ming San brings over 27 years of experience to Ya Ge. He began his career as an apprentice at the legendary Fook Lam Moon in 1998, spending eight years mastering the foundations of Chinese and Cantonese cuisine. After stints with the Super Star Group and a return to Fook Lam Moon, he joined Mandarin Oriental, Taipei as Sous Chef in 2018. His consistent precision and dedication helped maintain the restaurant’s Michelin one-star status for seven years, and in April 2025 he was promoted to Chef de Cuisine.
Ya Ge’s menu focuses on locally grown produce, with dishes creatively prepared by the experienced culinary team. The selection includes traditional dim sum, a range of fine wines, and premium teas. Diners can choose from à la carte options, set menus, or the Michelin Star Signature Menu. The dress code is smart elegant—collared shirts and covered shoes for gentlemen, smart attire for ladies—and the atmosphere is polished but welcoming, with accessible facilities available.
The Michelin star is a testament to the kitchen’s unwavering commitment to quality. Ya Ge’s Cantonese cuisine is executed with time-honored techniques and an emphasis on the finest ingredients, making it a standout destination for fine dining in Taipei.
