The story
Above the Fotografiska museum in Tallinn’s Telliskivi creative quarter, a rooftop restaurant with 360° city views redefines what a meal can be. Part restaurant, part bar, part garden terrace, it shifts with the seasons and draws a crowd that comes for the panorama and stays for the plate. The vibe is bold, playful, and unapologetically punk.
This is the only restaurant in Estonia to hold a Michelin Green Star for four consecutive years, and in 2026 it earned a Michelin Recommended nod. The team’s motto: “Even Michelin can be punk.” They mean it. Humble vegetables become rockstars here – even beetroot gets a wild side. Fish and meat remain on the menu, but the spotlight shines on plant-powered, organic, and zero-waste cooking. Every ingredient is locally or regionally grown, some foraged from Estonian forests, some harvested from the restaurant’s own rooftop garden and beehives.
Head Chef Gerli Trakin draws inspiration from global cuisines, blending local produce with techniques from diverse traditions. She has a knack for turning simple ingredients into vibrant, playful dishes. Aldur Soosalu, the Sustainable Food Lead, oversees sourcing and waste management, ensuring nothing goes to waste – from blossom to root. The kitchen follows the rhythm of the seasons, preserving summer’s abundance to carry flavours through the colder months.
The wine list is handpicked, with bottles sourced from small, sustainable producers. In 2025, Fotografiska created its own wines in collaboration with the fifth-generation Dexheimer family winery in Rheinhessen, Germany – two whites and two reds now poured at the restaurant. The rooftop bar crafts seasonal cocktails inspired by the museum’s photo exhibitions, using fresh, local ingredients. Many bottles are brought in directly by the team, each with a story to tell.
The 6th floor restaurant is the heart of the experience, but the ground-floor café offers lighter bites, specialty coffees, and pastries, with a sunny outdoor area in summer. Whether you’re there for a full meal or just a drink with a view, Fotografiska delivers modern cuisine that is as thoughtful as it is irreverent.
