The story
Gianni’s chef de cuisine, Costantino Veglianti, was born and raised in the Lazio province near Rome. Before moving to Tallinn, he honed his craft in Italian restaurants across the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, and Italy, and for several years owned a cosy restaurant in Berlin. At Gianni, he brings that breadth of experience to every plate, preparing dishes from carefully selected ingredients sourced mainly from Italy and Germany.
What sets Gianni apart is Veglianti’s deep respect for local produce. In summer, his day begins with a walk through Tallinn’s market, choosing the best from his favourite merchants. In autumn, he can be found in Estonian forests picking berries and mushrooms. The result is Italian cuisine that feels both authentic and rooted in its surroundings—a balance that earned Gianni a Michelin Recommendation.
The menu changes with the seasons, reflecting the best of what’s available. Diners can enjoy a garden terrace in warmer months, or the air-conditioned interior with a private room for special occasions. The restaurant also offers takeaway, bringing a taste of Italy home. Every dish is built on quality ingredients, prepared with the conviction that simple, honest food speaks for itself.
Veglianti’s passion for wine is as strong as his love for cooking. He delights in discovering small, largely unknown Italian wine houses, often preferring them to famous brands. Gianni’s wine card reflects this, representing multiple Italian regions with wines that are not available anywhere else in Estonia. It’s a carefully curated selection that invites exploration, just like the menu.
