The story

Les P’tites Bouchées, Aix-en-Provence: Award-Winning Cantonese Dim Sum

The semi-open kitchen

Les P’tites Bouchées in Aix-en-Provence serves Cantonese dim sum from a compact dining room that earned a place on the 2026 Le Fooding guide. Founder Paul Léonard recently passed daily operations to Lucas Chevalier, who continues to steam fresh parcels directly in view of the guests. The open setup lets diners watch the rhythm of the wok and steamer baskets while waiting for their order. This straightforward approach keeps the focus squarely on the cooking technique rather than theatrical service.

Signature parcels and plates

Beef tataki arrives draped over jasmine rice infused with makrut lime and orange juice, accompanied by a sesame and fried onion sauce. Guests frequently order the lion’s head pork dumplings paired with fresh coriander, while the slow-roasted lamb bao burger offers a rich contrast with its curry glaze. Sweet endings arrive as chocolate banana raviolis or a dark fondant folded with tonka bean and salted caramel. These dishes balance familiar French pastry techniques with classic Chinese cooking traditions.

Compact surroundings and drinks

The dining space holds just twenty-two seats arranged around pale wooden tables beneath patterned wallpaper. A curated wine list featuring Provence rosés and natural reds runs alongside imported Japanese lagers and house-made iced tea. Weekday lunches and weekend evenings draw steady crowds drawn to the shareable format. The intimate layout encourages quiet conversation between courses of shared small plates.

This dim sum spot is the perfect mood booster! A few pale wood tables, exotic wallpaper and a semi-open kitchen where all kinds of small Cantonese bites were being prepared the day we went for lunch, served with an explosively flavorful sriracha dipping sauce: chicken, mint, peanuts; beef, Thai basil, lemongrass; pork, eggplant, smoked duck breast…. Pair them all with sides that are perfectly executed by the boss, Paul Léonard, who just handed over the reins to Lucas Chevalier: a big slow-roasted lamb bao burger dripping with curry sauce; excellent beef tataki in a sesame and fried onion sauce, served with a rice bowl pimped out with makrut lime and orange juice; bluefin tuna tataki intensified by preserved lemon and a lovely fennel vinaigrette; perfect green papaya and under-ripe mango salad to cleanse the palate; before a classic chocolate, tonka bean and salted caramel lava cake. // Antoine Antoine
