The story
Le Valucien is the gastronomic restaurant of the Château de Vault-de-Lugny, a 12th-century fortress turned five-star hotel in the heart of Burgundy, just outside Avallon. The dining room sits within stone walls that have witnessed centuries, yet the atmosphere is one of refined calm – candlelight, white linen, and views over the park where a 400-year-old plane tree stands. It is a place where history and modern elegance meet.
The kitchen, awarded a Michelin star for high-quality cooking, focuses on seasonal produce from the Burgundy region. The restaurant describes its cooking as “modern cuisine” that honours local terroir. Menus change with the seasons and start from €69. On Wednesday evenings, a dedicated lobster menu is offered; on Thursdays, a wood-fired spit menu takes centre stage. A gourmet buffet lunch is available on weekdays, while à la carte dinners run from Friday to Tuesday.
The restaurant is open for dinner Friday through Tuesday, and for lunch on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays. Breakfast is served as a buffet by the fireplace or in the gardens. The bar, open daily until midnight, offers a lounge and terrace service. Whether you come for a full tasting menu or a seasonal lunch, Le Valucien delivers a quietly luxurious experience that reflects the best of Burgundy – without pretence.
