The story
In March 2017, the Hôtel de la Poste et du Lion d'Or opened L'Éternel, a gastronomic restaurant that honours the building's 200-year history as a coaching inn. The name nods to the "Eternal Hill" of Vézelay, where the Basilica of Sainte-Marie-Madeleine has stood for centuries. The restaurant is led by Chef Eric Balan, who brings a contemporary approach to the bounty of Burgundy.
The menu offers a range of contemporary suggestions that elevate fresh local produce in the great tradition of French gastronomy. This is modern cuisine, rooted in the terroir of the Yonne and the Morvan region. The restaurant's commitment to quality has been recognised by the Michelin Guide, which lists L'Éternel as a Recommended address.
The setting is the hotel's elegantly renovated dining room, with access to private terraces and gardens that look out over the village or the surrounding Morvan countryside. It is an atmosphere that balances the formality of fine dining with the warmth of a Burgundian welcome. The bar and terrace provide a more relaxed space for a drink before or after the meal.
