The story
In the heart of the Loire Valley, steps from the Château d’Azay-le-Rideau, L’Aigle d’Or occupies an elegant 19th-century villa. The restaurant is Michelin Recommended, a recognition that speaks to the precision and creativity of chef Simon Desiles.
Desiles trained under Michel Guérard and Régis and Jacques Marcon, and his cooking here balances classical technique with modern flair. The menu changes with the seasons, leaning on local products but staying open to the best ingredients from further afield. The result is modern cuisine with clear, harmonious flavours: duck with asparagus, or Poitou lamb with a miso-infused jus.
The setting is as considered as the food. The main dining room, with its large fireplace, feels intimate in winter. A second, rustic-chic room hosts private events. In warmer months, the real draw is the garden terrace and walled garden, named “Best Garden in Indre”. It is planted with herbs that find their way onto the plates.
Front-of-house, Jérôme Cobou leads a team that is attentive without fuss. He oversees a wine list of over 250 references, with a strong focus on Loire Valley producers, plus thoughtful pairings and a solid Champagne selection. Eleanor Thomas, Desiles’ partner, acts as host, bringing a relaxed yet professional warmth to the room.
L’Aigle d’Or is a destination in its own right, a place where the art of receiving and the craft of cooking meet with quiet confidence.
