The story
On the port of Bonifacio, D’Amore by Italo Bassi channels the sun-drenched, sparkling freshness of the Italian Riviera. The restaurant’s name is a promise: an invitation to surrender to simple pleasures and savour moments of sharing. The atmosphere, designed by the architecture firm Gardera-Pastre, blends warmth and refinement, evoking an Italian-chic dolce vita that feels both elegant and welcoming.
Born in Fusignano in the province of Ravenna, Italo Bassi carries a deep attachment to his region, which inspires his culinary creations. Early in his career, he joined the prestigious Enoteca Pinchiorri, rising through the ranks. In 1992, he spent a year in Tokyo opening Enoteca del Sol Levant as head chef, spreading Italian gastronomy across the East. Returning to Florence, he rejoined Enoteca Pinchiorri and, as head chef, earned three Michelin stars from 2003 to 2015. In 2016, he opened his own restaurant, Confusion, the only Michelin-starred restaurant on the Costa Smeralda. In 2023, alongside his executive chef Edoardo Menna, he took the helm of D’Amore in Bonifacio. The restaurant’s inclusion in the Michelin guide reflects this pedigree.
The menu is a celebration of Italian gastronomy, expressed with quality ingredients. Start with crudos like the Mediterranean tuna tataki with taggiasche olive tapenade, or a selection of Italian charcuterie from Zuarina. Pasta highlights include Spaghetti alla Chitarra with pecorino cream and fresh truffle, and gnocchetti Cacio e Pepe with gambas carpaccio and trout roe. For mains, a saffron risotto al salto with crustaceans and cuttlefish, or a veal tagliata Milanese. Desserts, crafted by pastry chef Maria Elena Cugusi, stay true to tradition with tiramisu and a mille-feuilles of panettone.
