The story
In 2019, Andréas and Estelle Baehr returned to their Bresse roots after years in Brittany and New Zealand to open Scratch Restaurant. What began as a small, twenty-seat cocoon has since evolved, moving in 2024 to a new, larger space in the city center of Bourg-en-Bresse. Yet the core idea remains the same: a true lieu de vie—a living space defined by its warm atmosphere, carefully prepared modern cuisine, and a thoughtfully selected biodynamic wine list.
Chef Andréas Baehr brings years of Michelin-starred experience to the kitchen. He builds his menus around local, sustainable producers, giving his modern cuisine a distinct sense of place and soul. The food is presented as surprise menus, allowing the chef to showcase the best of the season. Estelle, a passionate autodidact, curates a vibrant drinks list that complements the food, featuring living, evolving references.
Scratch Restaurant is open for lunch from Tuesday to Saturday, and for dinner on Thursday and Friday. The team prides itself on adapting to guests’ schedules, making it a welcoming choice for a quick midday pause or a more leisurely evening. This commitment to quality and warmth has not gone unnoticed—the restaurant earned a Michelin Recommendation, a testament to its consistent execution and genuine hospitality.
Whether for a simple moment or a special occasion, Scratch Restaurant offers an experience that is both personal and polished, rooted in the flavors of the region and the passion of its owners.
