The story
In Chabanais, a short drive from Limoges and Angoulême, Le Vieux Moulin has earned a Michelin Recommendation for its thoughtful, seasonal cooking. Housed in a setting that lives up to its name—complete with a large fireplace for winter and a terrace for summer—the restaurant balances rustic charm with a polished kitchen.
The menu is built around local, seasonal products. A starter of veal, cooked tender and served like a carpaccio, is followed by options such as pork from the Ferme des Monts Vert, gratinéed with sun-ripened vegetables, or maigre from the local coast with a frégola risotto in langoustine bisque. The classic foie gras, prepared in-house and finished with pineau des Charentes, is a constant on the menu.
Le Vieux Moulin describes its style as “cuisine authentique et gastro revisitée”—traditional French cooking, reinterpreted with care. The result is food that feels both grounded and precise, served in a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
