The story
In the quiet village of Montanges, L'Auberge du Pont des Pierres takes its name from the stone bridge that spans the Valserine river – France’s first classified wild river, just minutes away. The restaurant sits with an uninterrupted view of the Haut Jura chain and the distant Alps, a panorama best enjoyed from the shaded terrace as soon as the sun appears. This is a place where the landscape and the plate speak the same language.
Chef Romain builds his refined, gourmet modern cuisine exclusively around fresh, local, and seasonal products. He draws inspiration from the valley’s producers, whose work shapes every dish. The result is cooking that feels both precise and generous – the kind that earned the restaurant a Michelin Bib Gourmand for good quality, good value cooking. At the front of the house, Chloé brings an art of hospitality that connects the kitchen with the guest, explaining the food and guiding wine choices from a thoughtfully curated list.
Beyond the main dining room, a separate space called La Table Côté Cave offers a more private experience. Seating up to ten guests in an intimate setting facing the wine cellar, it features a single, fixed menu of three courses served to the whole table – a format that lets the kitchen and the cellar shine together. It is an invitation to slow down and let the evening unfold.
With free parking, wheelchair access, and a terrace that makes the most of the Alpine views, L'Auberge du Pont des Pierres is a destination that rewards the short drive from Annecy, Lyon, or Geneva.
