The story
À l'Aigle d'Or is the story of the Hellmann family, told through four generations of cooking and hospitality. It began in the 1900s when Odile Ehrart added a small restaurant to the family farm. After the war, the women of the family kept the flame alive, instilling values of good food, a warm setting, and the love of welcoming guests. Today, Chef Jean-Philippe Hellmann—who learned at his grandmother Elisa’s side before training at the legendary Auberge de l’Ill—carries that tradition forward. He is joined by his wife Brigitte, their children Anna and Pierre, and nephew Paul, all working together to make every guest feel at home.
The Michelin-Recommended restaurant offers a refined take on classic cuisine, rooted in the Alsatian terroir. The menu changes with the seasons and the chef’s inspiration. The Menu Affaire (€43, lunch Wednesday to Friday) is a market-driven surprise. The Menu Hellmann (€78) showcases signature dishes: homemade foie gras d’oie with Porto jelly and seasonal confit, roasted sea bream with pea variations and a lemony hollandaise espuma, a veal medallion with rösti and ivoire sauce, and a pavlova of red berries with house-made raspberry sorbet. For a grander experience, the six-course Menu Dégustation (€98) follows the chef’s whim, served to the whole table.
Beyond the gastronomic restaurant, the family also runs a Winstub under the same roof—a more casual Alsatian tavern where Chef Pierre Hellmann (the next generation) offers daily menus and traditional fare. Whether you choose the elegant dining room or the convivial winstub, the spirit remains the same: honest, generous cooking in a place built by family hands.
