The story
In the village of Saint-Germain-lès-Arlay, a short drive from Lons-le-Saunier, a 17th-century former post house has been transformed into a family-run hotel and restaurant. The Hostellerie Saint-Germain, with its three-star hotel and gastronomic restaurant La Table de Marc Turpin, is the work of owners Maria and Marc Tupin. Maria’s warm welcome was recognised by Gault & Millau in 2023, and the establishment celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2025.
Chef Marc Tupin has been at the stoves since 2004. He trained in prestigious Relais & Châteaux and Michelin-starred kitchens alongside chefs such as Patrick Pages, Xavier Mathieu, and the Lallemand family. That discipline shows in his cooking. He describes his cuisine as creative, fine, and seasonal – a modern cuisine built on respect for ingredients. The menus change with the seasons and for special occasions, drawn from carefully sourced produce. The restaurant is a member of the Collège Culinaire de France and Euro-Toques, endorsements of its commitment to quality.
Dining takes place in the refined dining room or on the terrace under the shade of plane trees. The Michelin guide has recommended La Table de Marc Turpin, and the Gault & Millau accolade for Maria’s hospitality underlines the welcoming atmosphere. It is a place where the Jura’s bounty – from the nearby vineyards of Château-Chalon to the region’s cheeses and charcuterie – finds expression in a cooking that is generous without being heavy.
The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, with seasonal hours. The setting, in a restored historic building with modern comforts, makes it a destination for both travellers and locals seeking thoughtful modern cuisine.
