The story
In the village of Richardménil, just ten minutes from Nancy, Au Bon Accueil has welcomed guests for generations. What began as a guinguette—a riverside dancehall serving fried fish and wine—was transformed into a proper restaurant in the 1950s by Mr. and Mrs. Bord. The name, meaning "a warm welcome," has been the guiding principle ever since.
Today, the restaurant is run by the Kruch family, who took over in the 1960s and turned it into a destination for fine dining in Lorraine. Since 2015, chef Romain Kruch has been at the stoves, bringing a decade of experience from Michelin-starred kitchens across France. He has modernised the menu while preserving the soul of the place.
Romain Kruch’s cooking is a refined take on modern cuisine, where local ingredients are treated with precision and creativity. Dishes such as ceviche of sea bream with peach, red onion, croutons and romaine lettuce, or grilled angus beef paleron with aubergines, olives, piquillos, panisse and rocket show a kitchen that balances technique with bold, clear flavours. A five-course menu might include white asparagus with Arctic char, comté and gribiche, followed by Ibéricain pork palomita with crispy pig’s trotter croquettes, artichokes and girolles, and finish with rhubarb, hibiscus flower and pink praline crumble.
The restaurant’s wine list is equally serious, with a strong focus on the great French regions—Alsace, Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne, the Loire and Rhône valleys, and notably the wines of Lorraine itself.
The dining room looks out over the water, and in fine weather service moves to a terrace shaded by hundred-year-old chestnut trees. It is a setting that suits both family celebrations and business lunches—the restaurant offers private rooms for meetings and events, free of charge. The atmosphere is professional but warm, with Anne-Sophie Kruch and the team ensuring that the welcome lives up to the name.
Au Bon Accueil holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand, awarded for good quality, good value cooking. It is a recognition that fits this restaurant well: a place that has evolved with the times while staying true to its Lorraine roots.
