The story
In the narrow streets of Nancy’s Vieille-Ville, La Toq' stands as a confident expression of modern French cooking. Chef Bertrand Heckmann, born in Dieuze in 1968, discovered his calling early. At sixteen he entered the École hôtelière de Metz, then sharpened his skills alongside Gérard Veissière at Le Capucin Gourmand in Nancy, Alain Senderens at Lucas Carton in Paris, and Gérard Boyer at Domaine des Crayères. In 1997, he took over the house known as "La Toque Blanche" and reinvented it as La Toq'.
The restaurant’s Michelin Recommended status, awarded in the 2026 guide, reflects the quiet precision of Heckmann’s cooking. The menu, built around market-fresh ingredients, changes regularly. A midday option, the Menu Retour du Marché, offers a three-course glimpse of the kitchen’s style: ravioli of braised beef cheek, snacked sea bream with courgette spaghetti, and a Burlat cherry cheesecake. All dishes are made from scratch on the premises.
The dining room is air-conditioned, and in warmer months a terrace opens onto the street. The wine list is thoughtfully chosen, and the atmosphere stays unhurried—a place for a proper lunch or a long evening. Dinner is served Tuesday through Saturday, lunch Tuesday through Sunday.
La Toq' is modern cuisine without fuss, rooted in technique and a deep respect for the product.
