The story
À l'Ami Fritz began in 1970 when Jeanine and René Fritz took over an 18th-century Winstub in the village of Ottrott, in the heart of Alsace. Twenty years later, their son Patrick and his wife Sophie took the helm, transforming the family hostelry into a destination that blends traditional Alsatian hospitality with contemporary style. The restaurant remains the soul of the property, where Patrick Fritz – now the chef – has elevated his mother’s local Alsatian cuisine into gastronomic fare while preserving the warmth and homeliness that define the place.
The dining room reflects Sophie’s careful touch: a harmonious interior that feels cosseted and inviting, with an emphasis on distinguished service for both local and international guests. Patrick and his team “make generous use of all their talents in order to make your palette resonate to the sound of all the tastes of Alsace in a warm and convivial atmosphere.” The cuisine is deeply rooted in the region, with dishes that showcase the richness of Alsatian ingredients – quail, pike, and soufflés among them, according to the restaurant’s imagery. This dedication has earned À l'Ami Fritz a Michelin recommendation, a recognition that speaks to the consistency and sincerity of the cooking.
Set in the upper part of Ottrott, the restaurant sits between Mount Saint‑Odile and Strasbourg, an ideal stop on the Route du Vin. The terrace offers a pleasant setting, and the hotel’s wellness facilities and adjacent “Maison de Sophie” guesthouse complete the experience. But the restaurant stands on its own as a place where Alsatian cuisine is served with genuine generosity and skill – exactly as it should be.
