The story
At the foot of Mont Sainte Odile, in the village of Ottrott just minutes from Obernai, the Hostellerie des Châteaux & Spa offers a dining experience that has caught the attention of the Michelin guide. Chef Ernest Schaetzel leads the kitchen, crafting modern cuisine rooted in the flavors of Alsace. The restaurant, set within a four-star hotel, provides an elegant setting for both lunch and dinner.
The Schaetzel family has run the Hostellerie for years—Sabine and Ernest alongside the next generation, Aurélie, Guillaume, and Alina. Chef Schaetzel’s cooking is described as "cuisine raffinée," a refined approach that draws on local produce and Alsatian traditions. The menu changes with the seasons, and the wine list naturally highlights the great crus of the Alsace Wine Route, which passes nearby.
Two dining options are available. The gastronomic restaurant serves dinner every evening and lunch daily, with service from 12:00 to 13:30 and 19:00 to 21:00. For a more casual midday meal, Le Comptoir du Château opens Monday through Saturday for lunch. After dinner, the Lounge Bar invites guests to linger over a digestif in a relaxed atmosphere.
The Michelin guide has awarded the Hostellerie des Châteaux a "Recommended" status, acknowledging the quality and consistency of Chef Schaetzel’s work. This recognition places the restaurant among the noteworthy tables of Alsace, where modern cuisine meets deep regional heritage. Whether you are staying at the hotel’s extensive spa or simply passing through the wine route, the restaurant is a destination in its own right.
