The story
La Marande sits in the hamlet of Mirande, surrounded by Burgundy vineyards. The building, originally the home of an artist, was transformed into a hotel-restaurant in the 1970s. When Élisabeth and Philippe Michel took over in 2001, they renovated with respect for the original spirit. The stone façade with white shutters opens onto a flower-filled garden and a shaded terrace with comfortable sofas – a place designed for lingering over a meal or a quiet afternoon.
Philippe Michel runs the kitchen with a creative, instinctive touch, blending classic French techniques with influences from elsewhere. Élisabeth Michel welcomes guests in the dining room, embodying the warmth and attention that define the house. Together, they have built a reputation for consistency and excellence. The restaurant held a Bib Gourmand for ten years before earning a Michelin star in 2014 – a distinction it has held steadily ever since.
The cooking is modern, rooted in the ingredients of the region. One standout seasonal offering is the truffle menu, available at the end of the year, which features both black and white truffles in a progression of three starters, a main course of lièvre à la royale, cheese, and dessert. The meal begins with a flute of Champagne topped with a whisper of white truffle. The menu speaks to the chef’s precision and his ability to let the product shine.
The hotel has five rooms, each named after a plant, linking the garden to the bedrooms. The property also offers a large terrace for al fresco dining, a private parking area, and wheelchair access. In 2026, the Michels will celebrate 25 years at La Marande – a testament to their steady, passionate work in this peaceful corner of Burgundy.
