The story
Jour de Fête sits quietly in Saint-Calais, serving organic French cooking rooted in the Perche Sarthois landscape. Chef Adèle leads the pass, drawing on her time at Marseille’s Bouillon to shape the daily menu. She works alongside Oscar Raeburn and Étienne Legrand to translate local harvests into precise plates. Raphaële Yon-Araud envisioned the entire project as a combined dining room and grocery, ensuring every element stays under one roof.
The permaculture plot supplies Maud with vegetables and herbs that travel straight to the cutting board. Zucchini blossoms arrive lightly fried and dressed with yogurt and sumac mayonnaise, while marinated eggplant meets tomato and redcurrant in a sharp miso vinaigrette. Pea and broad bean ravioli rest in cream scented with green pepper geranium leaves, showing how contemporary French cuisine respects seasonal limits. Dry-aged pork chops follow with new potatoes and a rich charcutière sauce.
The renovated stone building houses both the dining area and a small shop selling house-made terrines and sausages. Lucien Poujol handles the ovens daily, turning out loaves that match the bread served tableside. Le Fooding named the spot best village café in 2023 and returned it to the guide list for 2026. Families gather around outdoor tables when the weather turns mild, and the French cooking continues through the afternoon service.
