The story
On the heights of Saint-Jean-Lespinasse, just outside Saint-Céré, Les Trois Soleils de Montal is both a hotel and a destination restaurant. The setting is quiet, with views over the park and the surrounding countryside of the Lot. Hiking trails wind through the cliffs and dry-stone walls of nearby Autoire – a landscape the restaurant’s own site describes simply as “The Lot countryside.”
The kitchen here earned a Michelin star in 2026, recognised for high-quality cooking grounded in modern cuisine. The menus change with the seasons, drawing on local producers. A sample “Idées du jour” menu pairs Tauriac asparagus with a poached egg trompe-l’œil, followed by Challans duck fillet roasted on chest, finished with a small basket of red fruits and oregano sorbet.
A second menu, “Saveurs,” opens with Chioggia beetroot salad and crab, then moves to pollock fillet with lovage curry. Bigorre black pork appears slow-cooked with seasonal fruits and condiments, and the meal can end with matured cheeses or a composition of red fruits and chocolate-caramel.
The atmosphere is unhurried, with air-conditioned dining rooms and an outdoor terrace for warmer months. Vegetarian options are available, and the entire property is wheelchair accessible. It is the kind of place where the meal – precise, seasonal, unfussy – feels like a natural extension of the landscape around it.
