The story
Le Cairn is the realisation of a long-held dream for Adrien and Charline, a couple who met in 2011 at the hotel school of Thonon-les-Bains. After a year travelling abroad, they honed their craft in notable French kitchens—including Le Prieuré Baumanière, a Michelin-starred address—before returning to their roots in the Aravis valley. In Saint-Jean-de-Sixt, they took over the former Cabanon and renamed it Le Cairn, a name that carries two meanings: the stone cairns that mark mountain trails, and a nod to their time in Australia, where Cairns is a familiar city.
With just 25 covers, the dining room is deliberately small, creating a sense of privacy and focus. In winter, a fireplace warms the space; in summer, the shaded terrace opens onto the alpine air. The atmosphere is described as gastronomic yet warm and relaxed—a place where the meal feels personal.
Adrien leads the kitchen, Charline runs the dining room. Together, they craft menus built around fresh, seasonal, and local produce. The cooking is modern, but the ingredients speak for themselves—what grows and is raised nearby takes centre stage. Guests are invited to let themselves be guided through the changing offerings.
The restaurant’s approach has earned it a place in the Michelin guide, recognised for its consistent quality and honest expression of the Alps. Le Cairn is a stop worth making, whether you are passing through the Aravis or seeking out a genuine local table.
