The story
In the medieval village of La Roque-Gageac, O'Plaisir des Sens is the project of chef Bruno Marien and his wife Lydie. Bruno, a maître restaurateur, leads the kitchen with a focus on fresh, seasonal ingredients, while Lydie, a qualified sommelier, welcomes guests and recommends wines from her training at the Wine and Spirit Education Trust. Together, they have built a restaurant that feels like an extension of their home – their three children are often seen helping in the kitchen, garden, or dining room.
Bruno Marien’s Modern Cuisine is rooted in the Périgord terroir. He cultivates an on-site permaculture garden, growing vegetables and a remarkable twelve varieties of basil. The menu changes with the seasons, drawing on what is ready to harvest. Beyond the garden, the kitchen works with more than fifty local suppliers from Nouvelle-Aquitaine, ensuring a steady supply of quality produce. Every element – from sauces and creams to the sourdough bread – is made in-house by the chef and his brigade.
O'Plaisir des Sens holds a Michelin Recommended distinction, reflecting the restaurant’s commitment to refined, authentic dining. The atmosphere is intentionally warm and unhurried. Lydie describes her husband’s cooking as “calm” – a way to leave daily worries behind and focus on the plate. Tasting menus are available, and special seasonal events, such as a truffle-focused menu, highlight the region’s black diamond. Wine pairings are carefully chosen by Lydie, who believes in matching characterful wines with the chef’s precise flavours.
