The story

L'Auberge d'Anthy: Lake Léman Restaurant in Thonon-les-Bains, France

A Family Affair on the Shores of Lake Léman

Since 1927, L'Auberge d'Anthy has been a welcoming fixture in the village of Anthy-sur-Léman, near Thonon-les-Bains in Haute-Savoie. This family-run hotel and restaurant sits between the lake and the mountains, offering a warm, unpretentious setting that has earned it a place in the Michelin guide.

The heart of the house is its cuisine, which celebrates the lake and the region. For over 90 years, the restaurant has specialized in fresh perch from Lake Léman, alongside other local fish like féra, trout, and omble-chevalier when available. The menu also features seasonal Savoyard classics: cured ham, foie gras, a soufflé made with Abondance cheese, game in autumn, and Beaujolais Nouveau.

The Bistrot and the Restaurant

The restaurant operates as two distinct spaces. The Bistrot is the soul of the house, open from Tuesday to Sunday lunch. It serves a daily menu, weekday lunch formulas, and classic Savoyard dishes like fondue moitié-moitié and raclette IGP de Savoie. On Friday and Saturday lunch, guests can order a 1kg côte de boeuf, pork échine, or duck magret with paillasson potatoes and salad. The Bistrot also offers evening pizzas and takeaway options.

The main restaurant is open for lunch and dinner from Wednesday to Saturday, and Sunday lunch. Its menu is built around the lake's catch, with a wine list focused on the Arc Alpin region. The restaurant draws on local suppliers: fish from the Pêcherie d'Anthy, cheese from Fromagerie Boujon and Maison Buttay, and bread from Pain de Grange.

A Gourmet Pause by the Lake

L'Auberge d'Anthy is more than a meal; it's a place to slow down. The property includes 12 guest rooms, and breakfast is served from 7 am on weekdays. The atmosphere is that of a classic French auberge: comfortable, unfussy, and deeply connected to its place. The terrace and outdoor seating let guests enjoy the lake views, and the restaurant is wheelchair accessible. With its authentic, market-driven cooking and a century of history, this is a restaurant that knows what it is and does it well.
