The story
Restaurant Octo sits in the quiet village of Aalbeke, surrounded by walking and cycling routes. The team, led by chef Henry Ghyssel, welcomes guests into a warm, stylish dining room. In summer, the cozy terrace extends the experience outdoors. This is a place where classic cuisine takes center stage, prepared with care and served without pretence.
Octo’s kitchen focuses on straightforward, well-sourced classics. Starters include Iberico ham, oysters, and salmon on toast with sour cream and shallot. The bone marrow (two pieces) and homemade Iberico croquettes are popular choices. For those who want a touch of luxury, there is caviar with blinis, available in three sizes.
Among the mains, the hand-cut steak tartare and vol-au-vent with farm chicken are staples. The vol-au-vent can also be ordered with veal sweetbreads. Seafood lovers will find sole (market price), eel in green, and cod Ostendaise—a nod to Belgian coastal tradition. Steaks come as filet pur or rib eye AAA+, both served with pepper or béarnaise sauce. Desserts keep to the classics: crème brûlée, dame blanche, and tarte Tatin with vanilla ice cream.
Every weekday, Octo offers a fixed lunch at €35, covering a starter, main, and coffee or tea. The à la carte menu is always available as well. The restaurant can also be hired privately for groups of 15 or more on Saturdays and Sundays—ideal for a relaxed lunch or dinner with family or colleagues.
Octo’s consistent quality and welcoming atmosphere earned it a Michelin Recommended distinction in 2026. The guide’s recognition reflects what regulars already know: here, classic cuisine is both dependable and memorable.
