The story
The Olivenhof Bar & Restaurant in Bergisch Gladbach brings a distinct Mediterranean approach to a preserved early twentieth century building. Three families originally conceived the project after a holiday on Mallorca in 2018 and acquired the former Gasthaus Zur Eiche in 2019. The 2021 reopening converted a long standing neighborhood meeting point into a dedicated culinary destination surrounded by an ancient oak tree.
The kitchen abandoned its initial tapas format in October 2022 to focus on a complete modern Mediterranean menu. Chefs prepare seasonal starters alongside grilled meats, fresh fish preparations, and handmade pasta dishes. The Schlemmer Atlas awarded the venue two ladles in 2026 specifically citing the refined food and consistent quality standards.
Guests select from up to thirty rotating wine pours that pair directly with the coastal European flavor profile. The bar program features both classic recipes and contemporary cocktail creations prepared behind a polished counter. The owners describe their service philosophy as southern hospitality, prioritizing relaxed pacing and genuine conversation.
