The story
In the Berchtesgadener Land, the Kulturhof Stanggass Gasthaus revives the area’s historic tradition of warm hospitality. Here, travelers, locals, and Schafkopf card players gather around a handcrafted wooden table that seats up to 25 guests. The atmosphere is one of genuine togetherness – a place to share food, stories, and laughter.
Kitchen director Zsolt Fodor leads a team that serves what they call “bodenständig kreative Küche” – rustic, creative cooking rooted in Bavarian and Austrian traditions. The seasonal menu draws on ingredients grown just steps away: old-variety apples and pears from the property’s own Streuobstwiesen (meadow orchards), vegetables from raised beds, and fresh herbs from the greenhouse. This commitment to short supply chains and sustainability is part of the Kulturhof’s broader philosophy of “Enkeltauglichkeit” – ensuring the land remains viable for grandchildren.
The Gasthaus earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2026, an award that celebrates good quality, good value cooking. It’s a fitting nod to a kitchen that balances honest regional fare with refined technique, without pretension. The award sits alongside the property’s one-Michelin-starred fine dining restaurant Solo Du, but the Gasthaus remains the heart of everyday conviviality.
The Gasthaus serves breakfast (a generous buffet with hot drinks, sparkling wine, and juices) and lunch through evening. The menu changes with the seasons, always highlighting local produce. Beyond the food, the setting includes a beer garden under old chestnut trees with mountain views, and a bar with a cozy fireplace lounge – each space designed for unhurried connection.
