The story

SCHORN by Lukas Schild: Contemporary Dining in Düsseldorf

A Düsseldorf Institution

SCHORN by Lukas Schild occupies a special place in Düsseldorf. It sits in the Bilk district, beside the historic church Alt St. Martin, the oldest preserved building in the city. The restaurant has long been a destination for those who value good food and interesting wines. Recently, the young chef Lukas Schild took the reins, injecting fresh energy while preserving the welcoming, unpretentious atmosphere that defines the house.

Chef Lukas Schild and the Cuisine

Schild’s cooking is a refined blend of French techniques and international influences, always rooted in fresh, seasonal ingredients. His approach is both creative and precise, earning the restaurant a Michelin Recommendation. The menus change with the seasons, featuring dishes like Skrei with potato foam, celeriac, and winter truffle, or a Kohlroulade from Alsatian squab with foie gras and pepper sauce. Each plate is a careful composition of flavors and textures.

The a la carte menu offers a clear progression from starters to desserts. A notable starter is the Beef Tea with Imperial caviar and crème epaisse – a delicate, intensely flavored consommé. For mains, the Beouf Bourguignon from Eifeler Wagyu beef is a rich, comforting choice. Desserts like Vacherin Mont d’Or with homemade fruit bread strike a balance between richness and freshness.

Omakase Evenings and Sunday Menus

On the third Thursday of every month, the kitchen offers an Omakase evening. Guests surrender their choice to the chef, who creates a four-course menu with matching wines, water, and an aperitif – all for 99 euros. It’s an intimate, adventurous way to experience Schild’s versatility.

Sunday lunch brings a three-course fixed menu at 64 euros, often featuring a velouté and ravioli from Oosterschelde lobster, Wagyu beef roulade, and a glazed pear with hazelnut ice cream. For those who want the full journey, a multi-course menu ranges from four to seven courses, priced between 99 and 158 euros.

Atmosphere and Wine List

The restaurant is known for its relaxed, cozy vibe – a place where high culinary standards meet genuine hospitality. An outdoor terrace offers seating in warmer months, and the wine list is carefully curated, with a focus on interesting, often lesser-known labels. The combination of thoughtful cooking, a convivial setting, and a strong wine program makes SCHORN a standout in Düsseldorf’s contemporary dining scene.
