The story
In the quiet Souterrain of a house in Essen, Chefs Atelier offers a dining experience built on a simple idea: that genuine enjoyment comes from a new way of experiencing food. Here, design, interaction, and taste merge. The space is limited to just eighteen guests per evening, ensuring a personal and exclusive atmosphere. You begin with an aperitif in the lounge before taking your seat at a curved table directly in front of the open kitchen – the heart of the evening.
Under the direction of Michelin-starred chef Alexander Hoppe, the kitchen team works with precision and creativity. Their style is described as a matter of the heart: inspired by Japanese finesse, carried by French technique, and driven by passion and care. The menu tells a story shaped by the seasons, playful textures, and the team’s collective inspiration. Each dish is a composition of depth and character, from a Hamachi with Gillardeau oyster and dashi to a main course of venison with red cabbage and celeriac.
Sommelier Lara Westeppe curates a wine pairing for each course, creating a harmonious flavor journey. The service is warm and attentive, treating each guest as the heart of the evening. With only 18 seats available per night from Wednesday to Saturday, Chefs Atelier delivers an evening that feels less like a dinner and more like a private exploration of seasonal cuisine at its finest.
