The story
Christian Steska’s passion for food and wine found its match in Herr Heinzerling, owner of the wine bar Bordeaux & Friends in Fulda. Over a bottle of Château Rayas 2005, they conceived a space where exceptional wine and precise cooking meet. The result is Christian & Friends, Tastekitchen – a restaurant that earned a Michelin star in 2026 for high-quality cooking.
The menu changes regularly but stays true to a style that bridges classic and modern cuisine. A recent dinner opens with an amuse-gueule, then moves to dishes like sturgeon fillet with mandarin, celery, and a spiced broth (with the option to add local Fulda caviar), or a playful “Schweinerei³” combining mimolette, black cumin, and carrot. A Borschtsch-inspired course features US onglet with kale, miso hollandaise, and beetroot. Desserts such as raspberry with pistachio and matcha, or olive-pecan ice cream with liquorice and white chocolate, round out the meal.
Guests sit in a relaxed, living-room-like setting with an open kitchen, watching the team at work. Two menus are offered: a five-course “Experience Tastekitchen” (69 €) and a longer tasting menu (139 €), served for dinner Wednesday through Saturday.
The wine list reflects Steska and Heinzerling’s shared obsession. It features rarities from Domaine de la Romanée Conti and Grace Family Vineyards, alongside a deep selection of German and French labels – from Clemens Busch Riesling to Laurent-Perrier Champagnes. The restaurant’s “Interesting Wine List” tag is well earned.
For special occasions like the Hessentag 2026 menu, Steska partners with regional producers: DESIETRA, Germany’s first caviar farm in Fulda, and Geflügel Petersen, a poultry supplier from the Rhön. This commitment to local sourcing runs through the kitchen’s philosophy, bringing classic and modern cuisine together on the plate.
