The story
Since 2007, Poisson in Cologne has been a destination for those who take their seafood seriously. Owner Ralf Marhencke describes the kitchen’s style as “creative, light fine-dining cuisine,” with a clear focus on quality and unusual fish creations from around the world.
The restaurant’s commitment to sourcing the best from sea and market has earned it a Michelin recommendation, a recognition that feels earned rather than sought. The kitchen works with fresh, seasonal ingredients, and the menu changes accordingly.
The seafood-focused menu offers a range of starters and mains built around the ocean’s finest. Begin with a classic Fischsuppe “Poisson” with saffron, rouille, and crostinis, or the Sashimi of salmon, tuna, scallop, hamachi with an Asian cucumber salad.
For mains, the Heilbuttfilet (halibut fillet) comes with Brussels sprout leaves, salsify, crosne, and Périgord truffle, while the Tranche vom Steinbutt (turbot) is paired with duck liver, red wine shallots, and creamed kohlrabi. The Lachs “Label Rouge” is served with baked shallots, creamed spinach, and butter potatoes. For those who want both land and sea, the Surf & Turf combines a US ribeye steak with seawater gambas.
The space is described as welcoming, with counter dining and outdoor seating available. The restaurant also offers catering services. The team’s passion for pairing excellent fish with carefully selected wines is part of the experience—as the owner puts it, “excellent fish is nothing without the right wine.”
