The story
At Planerts in Leipzig, the kitchen is run by two chefs de cuisine, Marko Schulz-Werner and Marco Ehrt, who work side by side in an open kitchen. They are joined by host Sebastian Wirth, who tends the bar and the dining room. The team’s motto: “Zwei Köche, ein Restaurant, null Chichi” – two chefs, one restaurant, no fuss. That spirit of straightforward, passionate hospitality has earned the restaurant a Michelin Recommended distinction for 2026.
The menu is an evolving mix of international cuisine with a clear Asian Fusion influence. Dishes change regularly, but you might find a beef tartare with celery and an onsen egg, a seafood-lemon velouté with tuna and leek, or a Königsberger Klops – a classic German meatball – reworked with mashed potatoes, baked capers, and kimchi. The Planerts Thai Curry, available with a choice of roast beef, fish of the day, corn-fed poularde, or tofu, is a signature. A lunch menu runs Thursday through Saturday, offering a single dish or a three-course set.
The restaurant is set in Oelßner’s Hof, a historic courtyard in central Leipzig. Inside, the space blends old architecture with a modern, industrial interior – open kitchen, bar, and 35 seats arranged to keep things intimate but not stiff. The wine list emphasises small, lesser-known wineries alongside classics, and the drinks menu includes a thoughtful selection of aperitifs and cocktails. The result is casual fine dining: elevated cooking without pretension, served in a room that feels both stylish and genuinely relaxed.
