The story

Weinhaus Anker in Marktheidenfeld | Michelin-Recommended Seasonal Dining

Weinhaus Anker in Marktheidenfeld

Since 1872, the Deppisch family has run the Weinhaus Anker in the historic heart of Marktheidenfeld, a town on the Main River at the edge of the Spessart region. For five generations, they have balanced the roles of innkeeper and winemaker, a tradition that shapes every aspect of the experience.

The restaurant occupies the original family building, where a careful renovation preserved the old Weinstube’s character. The exposed and restored ceiling painting in the main dining room is a particular highlight, adding a layer of history to the meal.

Seasonal Cuisine with a Franconian Soul

The kitchen works exclusively with fresh produce, sourcing ingredients directly from local producers. The menu draws on both Franconian and international culinary traditions, changing with the seasons. This commitment to quality and locality has earned the Weinhaus Anker a Michelin Recommended award, and it consistently ranks among the top 2,500 restaurants worldwide and the top 250 in Germany.

The family’s own vineyards supply the wines, making the pairing a natural extension of the meal. The cuisine is best described as seasonal, rooted in the region’s best ingredients.

Atmosphere and Spaces

The restaurant offers a warm, unpretentious setting. In good weather, outdoor seating is available along the old town promenade. For private events, the historic “Schoepple” wine cellar below the restaurant can be reserved, though it is currently closed for regular service. The signature “Schoepple-Pfännle” dish from the cellar is still available on the main restaurant menu.
