The story

Acetaia Munich – Fine Italian Dining on Nymphenburger Strasse

A Small Room, a Serious Kitchen

Ristorante Acetaia describes itself plainly as a "kleines Gourmet-Restaurant" – a small gourmet restaurant – on Nymphenburger Strasse in Munich's western quarters. That modesty is part of the point. The dining room does not try to overwhelm; the cooking does the work. Gambero Rosso awarded Acetaia 2 Forks in its 2025 guide, a recognition that places it among the more accomplished Italian tables in Germany.

What Arrives on the Plate

The menu reads as confident Italian cooking with a clear eye for quality ingredients and technique. Starters set the tone: calamari slow-cooked at low temperature are paired with mange tout, peas, broad beans and a squid-ink foam; hamachi sashimi comes with zucchini blossom, fermented pepper and a basil-vinegar espuma. The kitchen is not afraid of contrast or precision.

Pasta courses show the same attention. Fresh pecorino ravioli are finished with butter, marjoram and Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale – the traditional aged balsamic that gives the restaurant its name and signals exactly where the kitchen's loyalties lie. Handmade dill tagliolini are served with a gratinated Tristan lobster tail and green asparagus. From the sea, wild-caught turbot and sea bream appear with careful accompaniments; from the land, venison back in a pistachio crust arrives with turnip and Dominican chocolate.

A four-course menu signed "Giorgio's Menü" is available at €95, with an optional wine animation by Michele for an additional €50 – an indication that the pairing culture here is taken seriously.

Wine as a Second Language

Wine is not an afterthought at Acetaia. The restaurant hosts dedicated wine evenings – a recent one centred on Ca' del Bosco's Franciacorta range, pairing four expressions including the Annamaria Clementi with a matched four-course dinner. These evenings sell out quickly, which says something about the regulars who have made this address their own.

The combination of precise Italian cooking, a genuine commitment to wine pairing, and the kind of focused, unhurried atmosphere that a small room naturally produces makes Acetaia a reliable choice for an evening that rewards attention.

Concept A stately and elegant Italian restaurant situated at Nymphenburg's Grünwald Park. À la carte or four-course menu, featuring a permanent pasta course, "Pecorino Ravioli with Aceto Balsamico," that celebrates the restaurant's namesake. Culinary Style Giorgio Maetzke stands for Munich's best Italian cuisine, though recent dishes have had a few minor drawbacks: While the fried octopus was equally crispy and buttery-tender, the accompanying zucchini, eggplant, and pepper ice cream were quite bland. The risotto with spiced braised rabbit, olives, and burrata hit the mark in terms of bite and creaminess. Zucchini blossoms stuffed with fennel cream and two monkfish medallions were hidden beneath a lavish cloud of lemon foam – tasty in flavor, but less successful visually. Wine Around 250 Italian wines, focusing on Piedmont and Tuscany, plus an extra section dedicated to top international bottles. Atmosphere An establishment with romantic patina, featuring warm-toned Art Nouveau interiors, while outside the door lies a cozy, plant-adorned terrace lit by torches and lanterns. Pleasant, discreet service in the classical tradition. Verdict A charming classic that maintains its elegant image.
