The story
Just off the B65 between Stadthagen and Bückeburg, the Sülbecker Krug has been a constant for nearly 80 years. The current generation, Astrid Nordmeyer and her husband Chef Lutz Reppegather, run the place with quiet pride. Their team’s daily focus is on developing fresh, creative menus that balance meat, fish, and vegetarian options.
The building’s history goes back further—first mentioned in 1635 as a coaching inn on the old Hellweg. The present structure rose from the ruins of a wartime bombing, and its wooden floor was crafted from the original timber frame. That sense of continuity runs through the food and the atmosphere.
Lutz Reppegather’s career includes notable stations: Jörg Müller on Sylt, Residenz Heinz Winkler, the Carlton Hotel in St. Moritz, and Restaurant Wollenberg in Hamburg. After years away, he and Astrid returned to the family home to bring “culinary fresh wind” to the Schaumburg region. The kitchen’s approach is International in style—not tied to one tradition, but drawing on techniques from across Europe and beyond.
The restaurant describes itself as Restaurant, Weinbar, and Steaks. The newly furnished wine bar invites guests to stop in for a glass of wine, coffee, or beer even without a full meal. But the real draw is the cooking. The kitchen team runs regular themed events that highlight their versatility:
These specials sit alongside the permanent steak-focused menu, and the kitchen adapts to the seasons.
The Michelin guide’s “Recommended” status for 2026 reflects the consistent quality and creativity on offer. It’s a recognition earned over years of careful cooking, not flash. The restaurant is open Thursday through Saturday from 6 PM to 9 PM, and Sunday from 5 PM to 8 PM (Monday to Wednesday closed).
